Assignment: The Role of Finance in the Innovative Process

Conduct a search and find relevant articles that relate to the subject material in our class and discuss the role of the financial function in the innovation process. In your search, it may be helpful to focus on articles or studies that describe financial tools used by organizations to evaluate innovative projects. The length should be 1,000-1,400 words (4 to 6 pages) and use terminology from class material.

Depending upon the article chosen, the paper should address any three of the following:

• Articulating the role of the financial manager in respect to the innovation process
• Define the goal of innovation and impact on the business and customers alike
• Interpret organizational goals for innovation and objectives and how they fit into the general business/finance environment
• Differentiate between NPV/IRR/DCF/Breakeven analysis as present tools for evaluating innovation projects
• Identify and discuss positives and negatives of current innovation processes and evaluation methodologies
