Case Study:Planning an international project
Currently, Bio-World, the company where you are working has decided to make an exciting project expected to improve the international healthcare through producing a prototype high-tech device that once connected to a smartphone will provide a remote diagnosis and treatment follow-up for patients with chronic conditions such diabetes and hypertension by measuring instantaneously thenanalyzing their biometricdata. The project includes also the design of a phone application that link phone user's data with an international webserver that will be developed through the collaboration with biostatistics team located in Germany. Through its market research, Bio-World identified two potential locations, India and Brazil, for hiring different project team members with low cost. However, it has been observed that the qualified labors (mostly fresh graduates with some years of experience) in India and Brazil are still living in small villages on low living standards, making their living out of local fishing and farm trades. The company, then, will engage in promoting entrepreneurship by providing business guidelines and training to the communities, which will sustain and develop the qualified labor markets in these regions, for future needs.
You are part of the project leadership team responsible for the planning and execution of this strategic program. Your assignment is to propose a picture for the project life cycle and present it to the executive board of Bio-World.
Note that your answers should be as much as possible related to the case above. You are strongly advised to base your answers with examples relevant to described project.
Question 1. From the information above, and if you were asked to select one project among many, propose two criteria that you can use in the selection process and that strongly reflect the strategic goal of Bio-World company.
Question 2. Outline and briefly explain four environmental factors that might affect the international project that Bio-World is intending to make, then provide one example, at least, for each outlined factor.
Question 3. In the context of the described project and the specificity of the targeted labor, discuss how you will form your project team through the four steps of the project team development.
Question 4. Outline four risky events examples and discuss how they can affect the project completion.
Question 5. To conceive a project monitoring information system, propose the type of data to be collected.
Question 6. Basing on your answer for question 4, discuss two types of project closure.
Question 7. Basing on examples, discuss four areas for training to increase understanding of a foreign culture, in the above case study context.
