Building Teams and managing projects
My other major issue is managing people. Some people do not have any interest on being on the team, some do not commit enough time to the project, some want to take the project in a whole new direction even though the expected outcome has already be defined by senior management, all these issues slow a project to a crawl and then the people need to be managed.
I have observed that when key members of the team are not participating or are missing the team is unable to complete the task as they are lacking in expertise to do the work (Aube et al, 2011). There is no easy and fast way I know of on how to motivate people, each person is unique and responds differently.
I agree with Cabanis-Brewin (2011) with the idea that training a change initiative team would help with people's resistance to change and make the project progress more quickly. I would also add that if senior management start with communicating the scope of the project and the goals it will help generate that much needed buy-in from people.
