Assessment - Building Innovative Teams

Your Task

• You have been asked to advise the US government about how to create diverse creative teams to solve the problem of "Fake News"
• With reference to current diverse sources you need to recommend how to form these teams
• You also need to form this type of team with your classmates using a shared discussion forum and justify the makeup of your team

Assessment Instructions

The US government is looking for policy solutions to the problem of "Fake News" by convening a set of "innovation hubs" to generate proposed solutions to this problem by employing big data, analytics, artificial intelligence and other technologies.

You have also been asked to recommend how creative and diverse teams should be formed to address this problem through the innovation hubs. Write a report below addressing the below headings and tasks.

1. Introducing a real-world problem: Briefly introduce why fake news is a problem in our society (here and overseas). You can refer to below sources. (200 words)

2. Creating a diverse team: What kind of team will you need to assemble to create proposed solutions to this problem? What type of human skills and aptitudes, data, AI, technology resources would you need in your team? (400 words)

3. The role of data and AI: Can AI or data assist in constructing this diverse creative team? How? How is collective intelligence enabled and enhanced by technology? How would you ensure it is diverse and why is this important? (https://hbr.org/2016/11/why-diverse-teams-are- smarter) (300 words)

4. Your personal role in this team: If you were going to be part of this team reflect on the below preferences and abilities you have:

• Reflect on what Belbin Team roles you have taken on in the past
• Reflect on which of the six hats you most often wear (select 2)
• Reflect on your creativity style (from Assessment 1) (400 words)

5. Creating your teams in-house: By using a shared forum on MyKBS construct teams of 4-5 with your classmates to address this problem. This forum is open Monday 9am-Wednesday 11pm of Week 9 for you to openly negotiate the teams (do not communicate outside the platform as your interactions will be marked). Negotiate the teams with consideration of:
• The personal creativity style of each member
• The preferred Belbin Team role of each member
• The preferred "hat" of each member
• The different data analysis and visualisation capabilities
• The diversity of each team-members background and experience
(Submit screen-shots of discussions on the forum and a brief summary of why you picked your teams of 300 words)

6. Reflect: Reflect on the process you went through and reasoning you used to assemble your team. What limitations and difficulties came up that you didn't expect? (200 words)
