1. Case Study - Psychology in the Workplace and Building a Business Case for Safety
You are a seasoned health and safety manager who has been working at ACME Widgets for over 10 years. You have an excellent track record of successful implementation and a strong relationship with the local union.
The company has been sold to new owners. With this process comes a total change of the executive leadership team (CEO, President, Vice Presidents, Board of Directors, etc.) and it also comes with a new direction for the entire company. Your safety budget has been slashed down to less than 1/3 of your usual budget and two members of your team have been eliminated. The new executive leadership team cites your success as the reason for down sizing the department.
You know there are huge risks involved with this decision, and you know that your entire safety program is no longer sustainable. You want to convince the executive leadership team to re-implement as many resources as you had previously.
Considerations for your answer:
Using everything that you have learned this semester, what should you do to ensure that your program has what it needs to remain sustainable? Question everything about both yours and the company's stance on this matter and describe what steps you would take to solve this "problem".
