Case Scenario: A family has recently moved into the area, and they have a child, Yan, who is 18 months old. She is crying and upset on arrival at the Victoria Gardens Early Learning Centre. This happens every day when she attends the service. Yan commenced attending the service 3 weeks ago. Educators Nate and Brodie have been trying different strategies to help Yan settle. They have previously discussed their ideas together and decided that they will comfort Yan upon her arrival, distract her by singing to her and looking at the goldfish tank, then redirect her to play with the blocks (one of her favourite activities). Nate and Brodie arrange to have a meeting with Hu (Yan's dad) and discuss what has been happening. They describe the various strategies they have attempted to help Yan settle. They ask questions about Yan's other interests and successful ways that she is settled at home. They talk for 20 minutes and in that time, get to know both Hu and Yan better.
