Introduction

Write a research report, of 1600 words in length, on the business intelligence systems that need to be implemented to support the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and decision making process inherent in meeting the objectives of a given organisation's business objectives and strategies.

The assignment is in two parts.

The first part of this assignment is to build a support prototype for ERP. It consists of:

a) A data warehouse and dashboards.

b) The dashboards are to be used as an aid to support ERP and decision making

Before you create your dashboards you will need to articulate how it will "support Enterprise Resource Planning and the decision making process inherent in meeting the objectives of a given organisation's business objectives and strategies".

The second part is the report proper; you will analyse and evaluate recent ERP literature and appropriate professional online sources to determine current trends and approaches to use the data warehouse and dashboards effectively to support decision making in an enterprise. Then, based upon your findings, you will provide a brief evaluation of your ERP decision support prototype.

As discussed in class, resources that may be of use have been posted onto the course web site.

Part A: Data Warehouse

Simulate a Data Warehouse Application using MS Access/MS Excel/SAS Studio Based on data provided (optional) you will use MS Access to:

1. Create production data tables

2. Decide on the relevant dimensions required for the data warehouse, and then create tables to store the dimensions of a data warehouse.

3. Decide what facts are required and then create tables to store these facts

4. Create a data warehouse via a query that joins the dimension and fact tables.
ERP and Decision making

5. Create queries designed to retrieve data (for use in forms or reports) from the data warehouse in support of specific decision making activities.

6. Use Pivot tables in MS Excel or Visual Analytics on SAS Viya (in support of ERP and decision making of an organisation).

7. Create dashboards for various departments contributing towards enterprise-wide decisions.

Requirements
1. A sample Working Data Warehouse and a Dashboard

2. Brief Report outlining the intended decision making activities that the dashboard is designed to support

This brief report with data warehouse is to be uploaded on Moodle.

Part B: Report

Requirements

1. At least 5 quality references must be used

2. Proper Harvard style referencing; including inline

3. Document to be properly formatted to an acceptable level; including footers (name and page numbering) and headers (Title); Title page and ToC.

4. Length 1600 words approximately (of main content)

5. Document should also include; brief introduction; research and analysis of findings; summary; and evaluation (of your support prototype for ERP system).

Note: You are required to incorporate at least three dashboards integrating data from three different departments of the chosen enterprise to support decision-making in each department. Refer to the workshop textbook and online resources on Moodle for creating the data warehouse and dashboards using SAS Viya/MS-Access.
