Recruitment and Selection strategy, process, programs and policies design
Case Scenario:
- You have just been hired as the new vice president of Human Resources at ‘Insurance Canada West', a fast-growing Insurance services company with around 300 employees. You are replacing Diana, the previous vice president of Human Resources who left the company because she is retiring.
- Insurance Canada West is facing major problems with employees' Recruitment and selection.
- In your first week of your new job, you met with Diana, the retiring vice president of HR, to get some information and understand more about the recruitment and selection major problems.
o Here is the information Diana gave you during your meeting with her:
• "We don't have any recruitment strategy, plans or selection process in pace".
• "Many times, we receive very few or no responses at all to our job postings".
• "We are growing fast - in revenue and profitability, but we can't attract people to our company"
• "We do a lot of urgent hiring. We hire randomly only when there is a high workload
issue or when someone leaves the company".
• "I noticed that under time pressure, many hiring managers are just hiring people they already know from their network or people they worked with before".
• "Sometimes the job posting is done in a hurry by someone who doesn't know enough about the job or the company. In most cases, the job posting is just a list of what work is needed at that week".
• "I noticed also several cases of nepotism in hiring".
• "I was passing by one of the meeting rooms during an interview, and I heard the hiring manager asking a female candidate, if she is pregnant or planning to get pregnant in the near future? Another time, I heard a hiring manager asking a candidate if the candidate can remove his turban when meeting with customers on video conferences".
• "We sometimes use assessment tools that we found on the internet just before the interview.
• "Our interviewing questions are inconsistent. Our interviews are always scheduled last minute and never planned for".
