Background information for questions 1 and 2

A Client has decided to redevelop an existing block in an in-city area by removing an old dilapidated house (existing) and constructing of a new modern two story family home.

The following information is provided regarding the development:

- This area has recently undergonetown planning changes that allow for large coverage of the site (high-density) up to 80%.
- Ground Level - Garage, laundry/storage room, kitchen, powderroom, bathroom, loungeand dining.
- Level 1 - Master Bedroom with ensuite, two other bedrooms, main bathroom, and a study.
- The site has a 12 metres street frontage (width) and a total area of 480m2.
- The block has a uniformly falling 1:25 slope along the length of the block (from street frontage to rear). Due to this slope a section of the ground level floor will be suspended.
- The ownerhas received a relaxation to build the house 400mm from one side of the block, which is directly adjacent to the neighbouring property. The neighbouring property has also received arelaxation of 400mm on this common boundary. In order to receive the building approval the building certifier has advised that this wall will need to be constructed to achieve a 60min fire rating.
- Front (street facing) and back boundary clearances are set at 4 meters each, with the remaining side boundary clearance to be at least 2m
- Due to poor soil conditions the footings must be constructed using bored piers.
- Framework is a mixture of main structural steel beams and columns with structural timber framing and infill.
- Power and water services are connected at the street frontage, both via underground.
- Stormwater and sewer are connected at the rear of the block.
- A solar hot water system and solar power system will be located on the roof.
- The roof is a butterfly skillion roof falling toward the centre of the building, with abox gutter running down the middle length of the roof.
- A small 9m2 backyard shed must be located on the block.
- The house must accommodate a family of four.
- The remaining design and material selections are your choice.

Question 1

Obtain or view with permission a set of approved house drawings, which will serve as a guide and example to complete Question 1. Then, the draw by hand (not CAD) design drawings to document the project above.

Enough drawings should be provided to sufficiently document the project, and at minimum would include:

1. A site plan
2. A floor plan for each level
3. Roof plan, showing also any plant and equipment on the roof.
4. Elevation view (either side or front elevation)
5. Section view (along the length of the home, including footing detail)
6. In-Ground Services Plan, showing connection to infrastructure to house entry point.
7. A detailed design of the required fire wall.

Maximum paper format is A3.

Time should be taken to draw accurately and neatly and list all the items that would normally be found on design plans.

Question 2 (Maximum number of slides is 10)

Build a 1:50 scale model of the house project showing the main structural and non-structural materials, services and built in furniture as covered by this subject. Photograph the model in the process of being built (just like stages in a project) and prepare a PowerPoint ‘slide show' with annotations and a voice commentary explaining the features of your model.

Marks for the model will be based on your ability to fashion component members to reasonable scale and representation of typical building works rather than showing modelling expertise. However, you are strongly encouraged to get ‘crafty' and apply your best efforts. Recommended resources forprocuring yourmodel materials can be anything from things around the house as well as going to craft, hobby and hardware stores for specificitems (E.g. Spotlight, Bunnings, Craft shops etc.).
