ASSESSMENT TASK - INDIVIDUAL REPORT
PURPOSE
Course BUACC5901 is concerned primarily with the use of accounting information by managers in the corporate business world and wider environmental context.
The main purpose of this assessment is to provide students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to a practical‘real-world' task involving the analysis of a well knownpublically-listed company. This will enable you to gain insights into and understandings about the organisation, using the published financial report(s) and sustainability report(s) of the company as your primary data source.
Your analysis period should include material based upon the most recent published reports, covering data from the most recent two years. (Note: this will require you to undertake your analysis on a company that produces an ‘Annual financial report' and also a ‘Sustainability report'. In some circumstances, the ‘Sustainability report' will form part of the ‘Annual financial reprot').
Analysis of the Financial report
• Provide an analysis of the ‘Financial reports' to ascertain and determine measures of business performance. This will entail applying relevant analysis and/or calculations to the financial results including Financial Statements, ratios and other performance indicators
• Should focus on what is revealed by the ‘Financial reports' and any other calculations undertaken in the context of the company's operations. In particular, any important changes should be identified, discussed and where possible, explained.
• You should also provide an overall assessment of the company's performance and discussion regarding which aspect of the company's financials has demonstrated the most improvement.
Ananlysis of the Sustainability report
• Provide an analysis of your selected company in terms of how it is meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) as revealed in the ‘Sustainability report'
• As a part of this analysis you will also need to provide recommendations on how your selected company can more effectively meet the SDGs and an opinion on whether these are an important part of a companys organisational functioning.
