Assignment
In the assignment you will be required to produce an individual report, which investigates the role of operations management in a chosen industry, approved by your tutor, demonstrating how global operations management can be used to improve competitiveness (2,500 words).
The assignment will involve a review of academic theory on the aspect of operations covered. You will be assessed on the quality and depth of your analysis and argument. Bullet points alone will not achieve a high grade. Where appropriate your answers should be illustrated with sensible examples which relate to the points being made.
You need to choose one global operations management case for your individual report from companies such as Apple, British Airways, Samsung, Google or any company of your choice. You will discuss this further with your tutor before finalising the topic. Critical analysis of the case will help you to answer the following operations management questions:
Question 1) Critically examine three relevant Operation Management (OM) decision areas (e.g. quality, inventory management, layout or process design etc.) in your chosen company (or workplace, as long as evidences can be validated with credible resources within your workplace) (1000 words)
Question 2) Compare and contrast your chosen organisation with another contemporary one using the 4 Vs (Volume, Variety, Variation and Visibility) (600 words)
Question 3) Examine the ways to improve operational performance within this company (600 words).
Note: Introduction and conclusion should be 300 words in total
