Assessment Task

Performance objective
The candidate will demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate senior leadership behaviour and personal and professional competence

Procedure
This Assessment Task has two (2) parts - Part A and Part B.
PART A:
For this task, you will be observed leading your team within your organisations. This is more than just supervising you team. You are required to:
• Inspire and motivate your team to achieve organisational goals
• Encourage your team to model professionalism
• Perform your role with high level business ethics
To demonstrate this, you are to consider a business with operations that you know well. This may be working in a retail store, developing websites, or even working in a car hand wash facility. It is important that you understand the business venture, product or service well.
Next you are to assume that you are opening up a new branch of this business. Your premises have been chosen and built, and a team of 4 has been employed. Many of your team have experience in this industry, either working for your company previously, or for your competitors. You may have a few new staff - they seem enthusiastic and their job interviews were promising.

You are to prepare for and run a comprehensive first day meeting for your team. You have allocated 1 hour to run the meeting. During the meeting, you want to make sure you:
• Welcome and settle in the team
• Introduce yourself and the company (including what the company does, and the company objectives, mission and vision, and how they relate to the team)
• Discuss

» Company ethics and values
» Environmental management
• Engage with your staff, inspiring them to excel
• Get to know your team
• Encourage and motivate the team
• Build trust with your team
• Be aware of organisational culture
• Consult with your team members as suitable
• Assign accountabilities / responsibilities to your team
• Mentor staff as needed throughout session
• Encourage diversity and ingenuity from your team
• Empower your team, encourage accountability
• Create and maintain a positive work environment
• Identify risks associated with the team
• Ask and answer questions

Things to consider whilst performing this task:
• Be organised - prepare and plan for the session thoroughly.
• Develop anything you require for the session - including company details, values, mission, expected organisational standards, resourcing plans, etc - anything that you need to include or discuss in your meeting.
• Know your position and company well
• Arrange access to all required documentation for this process
• Be prepared to ask questions
• Be prepared to be asked questions

PART B:
After you have run your meeting, you are to reflect on what happened and answer the following questions in detail.

Question 1. Describe in detail the role of a leader in influencing groups and individuals throughout your organisation / department. Include all aspects that you feel are important to building positive role modelling and effective communication and consultation processes.

Question 2. Describe 2 different workplace culture improvements you would implement from your observations within your meeting.

Question 3. Describe the steps you undertook to ensure your conduct and performance built trust and support with your team

Assessment Task 2

Develop a personal development plan

Performance objective
The candidate will demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate senior leadership behaviour and personal and professional competence.

Procedure
For this project you are to consider your future.
You should take the time to make this project an effective development tool for your future.
You will need to consider:
• Your past and background
• Your short and long term professional aims
• Opportunities that are available to you now, or in the future
• Financial and personal goals
• Your desired work-life balance
• Your health

Your first step is to conduct a systematic self-analysis on your performance and direction through obtaining feedback from your employers, employees, clients, colleagues and your trainer. This feedback is vital to ensure you have a holistic view of your current standing, and should be assessed against competency standards to determine your development needs, priorities and plans

Once you have obtained and considered this feedback, you need to create a professional development plan for yourself that is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time specific. Your professional development plan should include objectives that are linked to your personal and professional objectives.

You are to also develop action plans for each goal you have outlined. This action plan will show you're:
• identified goals,
• future career options,
• strategies and resources to achieve your goals (including training and development),
• time frame to achieve each goal

Finally, you are to show evidence of implementing your action plans, including:
• participation in coaching and/or mentoring sessions with others
• Attending training in relation to administration systems

Question 17. Outline the process you would use to ensure that any issues raised through participative arrangements and consultations are dealt with and resolved promptly and effectively?
