Objective - To provide you with an opportunity to show you have the required knowledge for this unit.
Task - Performance and Skills Assessment
General instructions: You are required to plan and deliver a presentation on a specific topic. This can be a topic of your choice OR you can use the simulated workplace scenario provided below. You may select any business topic that is of interest to you or a favourite holiday destination, recipe, hobby or sport.
There are 3 parts to this assessment.
Part A - Preparing a presentation
Part B - Delivering a presentation
Part C - Reviewing a presentation
You will present on your selected topic to some of your class members. The presentation will be for 6 minutes and 2 additional minutes for questions and answers.
Simulated Workplace Scenario
Part A - Preparing a presentation
Prepare for your presentation by completing the following.
1. Fill in the Presentation Plan template provided below making sure you address the following:
a) General information:
- the name of the presentation
- the intended outcome
- date, time, duration and location of presentation
b) Characteristics of the target audience
- who they are
- what their roles are
- any special needs or considerations
c) Presentation preparation:
- topics to be covered - break your presentation into sections
- the strategy and delivery method to be used to present each topic
- list all materials, resources and presentation aids needed to conduct the sessions
- describe how you will gather feedback and evaluate the effectiveness of your presentation
d) You have personally booked the venue and want to make sure that everything is ready and prepared for you when you arrive. Draft an email to Victoria, the bookings officer at ihBC, detailing your requirements. Make sure you are clear and precise and that there are no grammatical or spelling errors.
e) Prepare a PowerPoint presentation of 4 - 5 slides on your chosen topic to be delivered in Part B of this assessment. Please ensure the following:
- Your presentation must meet the requirements you stipulated in your Presentation plan (Section 1).
- You will need to be creative and meet the standard guidelines for developing presentations (such as language, visual aids etc.) which are appropriate for your target groups.
- Ensure your presentation suits the audience you are delivering it to.
- The presentation cannot be shorter than 6 minutes or longer than 8 minutes.

Part B - Delivering the presentation
2. For this activity, based on the plan and PowerPoint you developed in Part A, you will need to deliver your presentation in front of some of your classmates. You will also need to obtain feedback from the participants. Make sure you complete the following:
- While preparing for your presentation, study Appendix A: Observation Report Checklist (which will also be used by the observer) to ensure you have met all the necessary criteria.
- As part of the presentation, you will need to provide each participant in the session with Appendix B: Feedback Form. Make sure you have printed 2 copies of the feedback form and bring them to class. (this is part of your assessment)
- During class, break into groups of four. 1 group member will be the presenter, 2 will be the audience and one will be the observer. Alternate the roles until each member has completed their presentation.
- When delivering your presentation, screen your PowerPoint slides on your laptop/computer/tablet or other device. Come prepared. If you do not have a suitable device, you need to make alternative arrangements.
- The presentation must be between 6 to 8 minutes in length.
- The feedback forms (x 2) and observer checklist (x1) must be completed and submitted with this assessment.
While conducting your presentation, please ensure you do the following:
- provide an introduction and overview of the presentation
- provide the participants with the Feedback forms and explain the need to complete and submit these at the conclusion of the presentation
- use the points detailed on the Observation report checklist and Feedback form to address all the necessary points which will be observed by the assessor
- speak clearly and use language which is suitable to your audience
- conclude the presentation and thank the participants for attending.
Part C - Reviewing the presentation
3. Having completed your presentation and reviewing the feedback you received you must now write a Presentation evaluation report which addresses the following points in detail:
a) Conduct your own self-assessment of your presentation delivery. Summarise the areas (at least 3) of your presentation skills which you were happy with.
b) Using the same self-assessment, identify and describe two areas you believe need to be changed or improved to increase the effectiveness of your presentation.
c) Review the feedback to the presentation (which have been provided by the participants in the feedback forms). In the table below list 2 aspects of your presentation that were not effective and one suggested improvement for each aspect.
Note - Need Task presentation 5-6 slides and have same presentation for Indian culture.
