Homework: Developmental Neuropsychology- Literature Review Paper
Overview
For this homework, you will write a comprehensive Literature Review Paper that uses empirical research to summarize and synthesize the existing body of scientific knowledge on the topic that you have been developing throughout the term.
At this point in the process, you have selected a topic, read and evaluated the available research on the topic, formulated a working thesis, and written an outline of your paper that presents the main and supporting elements of your argument. Now, you will use the outline that you wrote (incorporating the grading feedback from your instructor) to write your final paper.
Instructions
Using the corrective feedback that you have received on homeworks throughout the term:
I. Include an APA-formatted title page that provides a descriptive title for your paper.
II. Include 5 to 7 pages of expository content that comprises the following elements:
A. In the Introduction of your paper: (i) State the purpose of your paper. (ii) Briefly summarize the major points you plan to cover in your paper. (iii) Explain why your topic is interesting or useful to the target audience (i.e., other experts in the field) who likely would be reading it. (iv) Present your thesis statement.
B. In the Body of your paper, present the argument in support of your thesis statement.
1. Your argument should have at least 3 main points, and each main point should have at least 3 research articles/supporting facts to directly substantiate it.
2. The supporting facts will be taken from the primary, peer-reviewed journal articles that you have read. For each supporting article that you cite, include specific details that explain how the study provides direct evidence of your thesis/main point(s).
a. What was the research design?
b. Who were the participants?
c. What variables/outcomes were being measured and how were they being measured?
d. What were the main findings and interpretations, and how do the findings and conclusions directly support your thesis/main point(s)?
3. Be sure to synthesize the supporting facts and details into a coherent narrative. Use transition statements and paragraphs to effectivelty move from one main idea to the next.
C. In the Conclusion of your paper, 1) restate your thesis, 2) summarize your main points, and then 3) using relevant scriptural citations to support your rationale, discuss the following issues as they relate to the disease/disorder that is the focus of your paper:
1. Discuss the relationship among the causes of the disease/disorder, original sin, and living in a fallen world.
2. Discuss whether or not neuropsychological assessment is a Biblically-supported practice that Christian professionals can use to serve others.
3. Discuss whether or not the typical methods used to treat the disease/disorder are consistent with a Christian worldview.
III. Include an APA-formatted References section that provides the bibliographic information of the (at least) 10-12 primary, peer-reviewed research articles that you used to build your paper's rationale. Though not required, you also may utilize no more than 3 secondary sources (e.g., the Bible, the textbook, scholarly books, or other published literature review papers).
