Did you know that saying "Thank You" could increase your team's performance? And if you want to take it up a notch, include their name. After reading an article titled "Why It's Important to Show Gratitude at Work" (TWS,1), I was surprised to learn that the "perception of the grateful person's care is what drives observers to know them better and their wiliness to help more." (TWS,1). For example, I can sometimes get swamped at work, and I am so grateful to know that I have a team that has my back. For instance, If we are short staff on the unit and if I can get one person to come in for half a shift, that makes a big difference in how the day will operate. However, please don't take that person for granted; they didn't have to come in on their day off. Saying Thank you and being genuine lets them know that I value them. Having team members that take the initiative to overdeliver is going beyond what is expected. Their effort may be just what is needed to increase work performance.
The article I chose was "The Key to Being a Successful Leader? It's Adaptability". Jack Welch states "Above all, good leaders are open. They go up, down, and around their organization to reach people. They don't stick to the established channels. They're informal. They're straight with people. They make a religion out of being accessible. They never get bored telling their story." (Welch,1) Adapting to your company is one of the biggest keys to success. There are many areas to adapt to, such as your company's goals and visions, as well as your employees. Communication is another big key in leadership, without communication, you will see your company decrease rapidly. "Communicating effectively is a competency that's widespread among senior executives at companies that outstrip the field in employee engagement and development. But that isn't the case for leaders at the most innovative corporations." (Wartzman & Tang, 1) This article also touches on negative correlations. Leadership Style influences the organizational commitment of your workers. Organizational commitment influences the economic victory of the organization and the leaders who insert the qualities of a learning organization into their corporate culture advance in their environment. Team learning and shared vision are key components of learning for an organization. All of which a good leader needs to adapt to!
