Atomic and Nuclear Physics Assignment -

One of the most recognisable figures in physics is Albert Einstein; he was awarded the Nobel Prize for physics in 1921 for his work on the laws of the photoelectric effect. Two other scientists James Franck and Gustav Hertz were awarded the Nobel Prize for physics in 1925 for their work on the laws governing the impact of an electron on an atom, in the "Franck - Hertz Experiment"

Tasks -

Task A) Briefly explain both the Franck- Hertz Experiment and the photoelectric effect (KCU)

Task B) Analyse and interpret the Franck - Hertz experimental data supplied with this assessment task and explain what conclusions can be drawn from the data. (IP & EC)

Task C) Compare and evaluate these two Nobel Prize winning discoveries in regards to their impact on modern physics and what these discoveries have led to. (EC)

Your paper should include the following sections:

1. Introduction

2. Background Research

3. Analysis

4. Conclusion

5. Reference List - Full referencing will need to be conducted throughout this task.

The submitted assessment was on the experiment performed by Franck and hertz. This experiment was important for the progress of modern physics as it was a foundation of the quantum theory. This helped the Bohr in establishing a proof for his theory of discrete energy levels. The assignment submitted was made in MS Word format.
