Assessment - Annotated Bibliography
Learning Outcome 1: a) Apply research, academic and communication skills appropriate to the level of study and observe academic referencing requirements.

Assessment Task
Select 10 resources on a topic related to communication and write a 1500-word annotated bibliography summarizing the central theme and scope of the resources.

Context
Creating an annotated bibliography calls for the application of succinct analytical and reflective skills, as well as informed online and library research. This assessment provides experience and understanding of information literacy and the analysis and synthesis of a range of resources involved in academic research and writing. In doing so, this assessment gives you an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in sourcing books, periodicals and other documents, as well as evaluating the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the materials.
Instructions
1. A topic related to communication will be given to you by your Learning Facilitator in Module 1.1. The selected topic will be posted in the Announcements section in Blackboard.
This topic will form the basis for research for Assessment 1 Part A, Assessment 1 Part B, Assessment 2 and Assessment 3.
2. Apply your research skills to identify, select and analyse resources related to the topic. Locate resources (books, periodicals, white papers and other documents) that may contain useful information and ideas on the issue.
3. Briefly examine and review the resources and select 10 that represent a variety of perspectives on the topic.
4. Write an annotation of 150 words for each resource, summarizing its' central
theme and scope. The annotation should:
• evaluate the authority or background of the author
• comment on the intended audience
• compare and contrast this work with another you have cited
• explain how this work inform your topic
5. Please note that the issue and resources used in Assessment 1 Part A will also form the basis for Assessment 1 Part B.
6. When writing the annotated bibliography, you are required to:
• Include a title page with student details (i.e. student name, ID number, subject code & name, assessment number and title).
• Use at least 1 in-text citation per annotation.
• Adhere to the word limit of 1500 words.

Assessment - Forming an Argument
Learning Outcome 1: Apply research, academic and communication skills appropriate to the level of study and observe academic referencing requirements.

Learning Outcome 3: Identify and apply effective communication methods within a business and academic environment.
Assessment Task
Write a critical argument on the topic selected in Assessment 1 Part A Annotated Bibliography. Provide supporting evidence for the argument from the resources used in Assessment 1 Part A.

Context
This assessment has been prescribed to appraise your' ability to think critically and form an argument supported by evidence. It allows you to demonstrate your ability to understand the material you are using and to apply it in ways that go beyond what has been read.
This assessment has been designed to:
• Appraise your ability to critically evaluate academic and other research to form an argument on an organisational topic that is supported by evidence.
• Enhance your writing skills so they are able to form persuasive and convincing arguments and communicate them effectively.
The resources used in Assessment 1 Part A Annotated Bibliography are expected to be utilised in this assessment to support the argument.
Instructions
1. Write a critical argument up to a page on the topic selected in Assessment 1 Part A.
2. Use the annotated bibliography resources from Assessment 1 Part A for sourcing evidence and ideas for your argument. Review the resources critically and select at least 5 to be used as references for this assessment.
3. Please consider the following factors, when forming the argument:
• A good argument is convincing whereby the premises are acceptable, the supporting evidence is relevant to the claim and provides sufficient grounds for acceptance of the claim.
• You will be expected to form an academic and financial argument in favour, or against, utilizing the communications solution in the modern workplace.
• Make a clear point and justify it.
4. Please structure your argument as follows:
• Title page
• Introduction: provide a short introduction with a claim.
• Main body: with a logical structure including supporting evidence from academic sources.
• Conclusion: a concise conclusion which restates your claim and summarises your argument.
• References: please provide the reference list on a separate page.
5. Please use at least 5 in-text citations. Indicate logical connections and use connecting words
6. You are strongly advised to read the rubric, which is an evaluation guide with criteria for grading your assignment-this will give you a clear picture of what a successful forming an argument looks like.

Assessment - Discussion Forum Report

Learning Outcome 3: Identify and apply effective communication methods within a business and academic environment.
Learning Outcome 4: Evaluate the use and importance of technology within a business environment.
Assessment Task
You are required to submit a Discussion Forum Report that includes:
1. A critique of a peer post from the Initial Assessment Discussion Forum and
2. A reflection summarizing your learnings.

Context
Business communication can either be internal, within an organization, or external, between organizations. It can also be between existing and potential customers. This assessment gives you the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in selected business communication methods, including an examination of the theoretical underpinnings of communication in an organization.
This assessment has been designed to:
• Appraise your ability to academically research and evaluate characteristics of effective business communication.
• Apply critical thinking skills utilizing supporting evidence to justify arguments.
• You expected to demonstrate practical understanding of application of business communication skills and their importance in professional development.
NOTE
Assessment 2 consists of three (3) parts. For an acceptable result, you are required to attempt and submit all three parts of this assessment.
First, you are required to write a Discussion Forum post (due end of Module 2.1) critically analysing a topic given to you by the Learning Facilitator by Week 1. Please refer to MGT502_Initial_Discussion Forum Post Basis for Assessment 2 Document for more information about the Discussion Forum post.
Next, using no more than 300 words, review ONE (1) peer post from the Initial Assessment Discussion Forum.
Finally, you are required reflect on your learnings and write 300 words summary of your learnings.
Please do NOT post the review post and the learning summary into the Discussion Forum.
You are required to include both the review of the peer post and the reflective summary of your learnings in a Discussion Forum Report. This Discussion Forum Report should be in Word format and summited at the end of Module 4.2.
Instructions
1. Create a Discussion Forum Report that comprised of a review of a peer post and a reflective summary of the learnings.
2. Part 1 - Review of a peer post
• Using no more than 300 words, critique ONE (1) peer post from the Initial Assessment Discussion Forum.
• Your critique should include commentary on:
o Whether the original post is comprehensive. Please identify missing components, if any, and provide constructive feedback.
o Are sources and evidence included? e.g. in-text citation, reference list
o Are one or more examples provided? Provide a critique on the examples and their suitability in supporting statements.
• You are required to include reference to literature. Use at least 4 in-text citations. Please include a reference list.
• This review of the peer post should constitute the first part of your Discussion Forum Report.
3. Part 2 - Reflective Summary of Learnings
• Reflect on your learnings and write a summary of your learnings using no more than 300 words.
• Your reflection should answer the following questions:
o How your views of effective business communication have changed since your
original post?
o What are the three key points you have learned from the discussions in this subject? and how you can apply that knowledge in the future?
o Give one or more practical examples of how to apply peer review in your professional development.
• You are required to include reference to literature. Use at least 4 in-text citations. Please include a reference list.
• This learning summary should constitute the second part of your Discussion Forum Report.
