1. Briefly discuss the causes and course of the First Punic War. What advantages did both sides have at the beginning of the war? How did this change by the end of the war? What long term effects did the conclusion of the war have on the Roman Republic?

2. Discuss the involvement of Hannibal in the events leading up to and including the Second Punic War (218-202 BC). What was his strategy in the war? What were his successes? Why did he ultimately fail to achieve complete victory over the Romans?

3. Compare and contrast the conquest of Spain with the conquest of Greece in the 2nd century BC. Did the Senate of Rome initially have any intentions of conquering either area? How was each area run after the conquest, and did Rome necessarily have a "uniform" way of ruling its provinces?
