Briefly describe the role of carbohydrates in plants. What is their significance in the biosphere? How are carbohydrates related to cell walls, to geotropism, and other aspects of plant physiology?

Define secondary plant metabolite. Describe a few examples and state how the function in the immune response of plants. How are some of these molecules connected to use? Include the effects of nicotine.

Consider a typical plant cell. Describe how some organelles in plants are different from structures found in animal cells? How do plastids function differently in a number of plant cell types?

Describe the life cycle of a typical moss. Note the role of the sporophyte and gametophyte in the process. Note the number of chromosome sets in each part of the life cycle. How is the process by which gametes are produced different in plants compared with animals? What was the role of this group in plant evolution?
