Homework: Sparks Self Doubt and Solutions Proposal
Throughout the course, online writing and in-class group homework will be serving as a consultant to Sparks and Crash (SC) Co. SC designs and manufactures computer components for high-end distance learning systems such as the Kant C U video card and the Fizzle processor. The company currently has about 100 employees, including top executives, engineers, and manufacturing workers. Located in Southern Texas, SC recruits a very diverse workforce with a mixture of gender, ethnicity, and education levels.
You have been hired because SC is experiencing a number of organizational difficulties. You will be presented with a problem scenario for SC Co. Using the concepts and theories presented in the week's readings, you will create a proposal that answers the writing homework questions and addresses the difficulties faced by the organization.
This Module:
The company's co-founders, Burney Sparks, CEO and Carla Crash, COO are having difficulty reaching agreement on a schedule for next season's roll-out of products. Usually, both individuals are very capable, but recently Mr. Sparks has become quite unsure of himself. This has led to poor organizational decision-making.
Upon interviewing Mr. Sparks, you find that he is currently very self-focused. He shares that he feels very badly because he doesn't believe he is currently where he would like to be or should be as a leader. He also feels that his skills and abilities are far behind that of his longtime rival Rip Cable. In fact, Mr. Sparks would be very close to retiring and "packing it all in" if he did not feel so supported by and affiliated with his colleague Ms. Crash.
Your objective is to write a proposal for SC Co. to define the problem and describe an intervention that would help address the issue.
Answer the following points in your written homework:
Define the problem as you see it.
Select at least three distinct concepts/theories from reading to address the problem.
1. Briefly describe the concepts/theories and how they integrate (work together) to help you understand and explain the problem.
2. Compose an intervention for the problem from the concepts/theories and describe what you would do.
3. Predict, given the same concepts/theories, the outcome of your intervention.
