Briefly describe each of the communication theories that are presented.

The constructivism theory describes how we see the world around us. Attribution theory is the practice of blaming others rather than accepting full responsibility for one's own actions. People are motivated to learn about the factors that influence their behavior. The goal of attribution theory is to explain how and why people make these causal attributions. When we talk to someone, we adapt our style to meet the other person's style or method of speaking, which is known as communication accommodation theory. The theory is an advancement of speech adjustment theory talking about psychological concepts on the dynamics of speech. Attachment theory is used when the child has the binding behavior to their mother throughout their life. It is a model for understanding how a child's strategies for acquiring protection and comfort are influenced by early experiences of care.

Describe how two of the communication theories can be applied in a health and human services setting.

I was indecisive on which two to choose, but luckily I narrowed it down. The two theories that I believe that can be applied in a health and human services setting is Constructivism and communication accommodation theory. Applying constructivism accommodation in a health and human services setting can help to get a better understanding and have a similar outlook as your client. It can also help you respond better to your client. For example, you might have a different look on things but putting yourself in your clientâ€^TMs perspective can help you better understand. Applying communication accommodation in a health and human service setting can make your client feel more comfortable and open to you. Using a similar communication style as your client can also prevent confusion between you and your client.
