Project Three -

For Strategic Management, there are a total of three individual assignments; called Projects. These assignments are incremental in nature; meaning, that portions of each assignment may -in some manner- add or complement the final project. Consequently, the Projects are intertwined, rather than built in isolation.

This assignment requires the Student to accomplish the following tasks.  Upload your final case analysis using portions of Prj1 and Prj2 -as necessary,

Project One -

This assignment requires these outcomes:

1. Student to conduct a brief research on the subjects of Mission Statements, Leadership Theory, and Strategic Management.

2. Identify and submit a summary describing the point of intersection; where these three subjects serve as catalysts for strategic management effectiveness, and where these subjects do not intersect and serve as barriers for strategic management effectiveness. Consider, the role these three subjects would  play in the various stages of the strategic management concept of 'Life Cycle Model'.

3. Create a personal SWOT analysis and mission statement designed to stimulate the Student to establish a strategic path to achieve a professional and/or personal goal in the course of the next 12-24 months as noted in the Weaknesses, Threats, and Opportunities of the SWOT.

Project Two - Project 2 Case#12 TATA Starbucks:

How to brew a sustainable blend for IndiaStarbucks started out in 1971 with a single coffee roaster and retailer store in the Pike Place Market in Seattle. Since then the company had expanded its global footprint considerably with over 17,000 coffee stores in more than 50 countries. The visionary behind this international success story was CEO Howard Schultz.  Starbucks grew rapidly and successfully China, Japan & then not so good India. Unlike china tea-drinking was common in South India since the 1600's that is according to the according to the legend of the 17th century Muslim pilgrim named Baba Budan taped seven coffee beans to his stomach and smuggled them to India . the hills where he planted those beans are now known as the BababudenGiris.

Where is the problem? Starbuck gained access to locally produced premium-quality beans from Tata-owned plantations in the Coorg region. Tata coffee a unit of Tata global beverages produced more than 10,000 metric tons of shade grown Arabic and robust coffees at its 19 estates in south India. This was a strategic asset for Starbucks as it prepared to do battle with the domestic giant CCD.

What is the problem? High rental expense and high competition has left most foreign players struggling profitability despite years of trying. It is very expensive for rental space in India. Locations would have to be smaller and this is not good for the Indian culture.

Why is it important? The culture in India was to sit down and socialize for hours over coffee or tea. Lots of frustrated customers stopped frequenting stores because of the fact it was to hard to get a table. This did not work when it came to braking a cultural barrier. They like to sit and talk for hours.

Magnitude of the problem? As they move from high traffic and high spends locations, revenues or productivity of the stores will come down. The stores sales might come down over the years once they open stores in smaller locations. That will not work and the profit they are use to and expected to make will take longer.
