Assignment Objectives:
The aim of this assignment is to introduce the theories and practices involved software configuration management and testing strategies.
Learning Outcomes:
- For a specific project, select, evaluate and use tools and techniques to successfully handle configuration management.
- Select an appropriate test strategy and associated test data and apply relevant techniques.
Project Case
Assume that you are going to develop an online solution to achieve Internet banking. This will be available to all customers who have a valid User Id and Password. This system provides the following facilities: Balance Enquiry Funds Transfer to another account in the same bank. The application also can handle queries for cheque book/change of address/stop payment of cheques . The application can generate monthly and annual statements on customer transactions. Secure access of confidential data (user's details) 365 X 24 X 7 availability and better system design to get the maximum performance are few goals of the project suggested by the client. The client also proposed flexible service based architecture which will be highly desirable for future extension.
Tasks
Task 1:
Submit a work proposal for this assignment by the end of week 8 which must include:
- Understanding of deliverables - a detail description of deliverables
- A briefing on scenario and general overview of proposed plan - initial understanding of solution to task 2 & task 3
- Literature to be reviewed (10marks) You will be provided by a feedback on your proposal by week 9
Task 2
You are required to come up with a brief report on configuration management process required for the above project with the following details:
a) Suggest a configuration management tool (version management) which can be used during product development. You can provide screenshot of the selected tool with justification on how it can be applied for the above project.
b) Discuss few(minimum 3) relevant configuration management policies applicable to the above project within the context.
c) Analyze the problems which can occur if proper configuration management policies and procedures are not applied for the above project.
Task 3
You want to be sure that your application is always up and running, no matter how many people are trying to log in for banking transactions. In the context of above project you are requested to do the following to support your testing phase.
a. Design any two user interface screen for the above project and develop test cases using black box testing approach.
b. Propose a testing tool appropriate for testing the above product with its key features.
c. Analyze the risks you may face in testing process of the above project and discuss the mitigation strategy for all your risks.
d. A mind map focusing on key areas(functional & nonfunctional requirements) of the product to be tested.
Students must appear for a viva after submission of the assignment. If any student is absent for VIVA zero marks will be awarded.
Guidelines.
i. The assignment should not be more than 8 pages in (size A4) paper.
ii. The document should be well presented and neatly done.
iii. Assignment should be computer typed using Times New Roman/Calibri size 12 font and the report is to be submitted through Moodle. A trial upload chance to check similarity will be given a week before submission date.
iv. The report must have a Title Page, table of contents, reference/ bibliography and page number. Every page must have header & footer.
v. Heading should be with Font Size 14, Bold, and Underline. Each student has to do the assignment individually.
vi. You are welcome to discuss about the assignment with the lecturer in his/her office hours.
