Case: Supporting material is anything that backs up the claims in a presentation and helps to make abstract or complicated ideas more understandable. Supporting material can enliven your presentation by making your main points more vivid or meaningful to the audience or may add clarity, interest or provide evidence. Speakers may use a variety of types of verbal support to add interest or clarity in a presentation.

Types of Verbal Support:

1. Definitions: sharing the meaning of terms that may be unfamiliar to the audience.

2. Example: brief illustrations that back up or explain a point

3. Stories: illustrate a point by describing an incident in some detail (may be factual or hypothetical).

4. Statistics: numbers used to represent an idea.

5. Comparisons: make a point by showing how one idea resembles another.

6. Quotations: words of others who are authoritative.
