1. Trace your family tree through four generations (pets are family, too!) using the key above. Be sure to identify yourself on the tree as "EGO" and label each person in your diagram using genealogical kin types/terms.

Upload a copy of your diagram

2. Provide a brief description of your family diagram and the relationships you depicted in your family tree.

3. Families are more than lines on a family tree. As a budding anthropologist, you are interested in the patterns your family tree reveals. Families represent stories, interesting people, power dynamics-even mysteries. Your family tree may reflect educational patterns, geographic relocations, and inheritance flows. As you reflect on the process of mapping your kinship relationships, what stories does your family tree tell and what patterns does it reveal?

4. Even the process of preserving kinship history can be embedded in power dynamics. For instance, some branches are well-preserved and others might be missing. Why? Who has been cultivating and pruning your tree? Who has the records now? Could there be any "genealogical amnesia" (forgetting kin) going on in your family?
