Question: The more stable electron configuration will always be the one with [higher OR lower] potential energy. As a result, energy is required to break a covalent bond because going from a [higher OR lower] energy state to a [higher OR lower] one requires an input of energy. Conversely, energy is [absorbed OR released] when a covalent bond forms.
