Respond to I believe resilience is the ability of a community to bounce back from a natural or man-made disaster. It is important in terms of disaster and public health because when any type of disaster strikes it will take time for the community to return to a type of normal. How long it takes depends on the disaster, the impact, and how prepared the community is. In my opinion the biggest turning point was hurricane Katrina. Because during this hurricane a lot of things had to fall into place for death and devastation that took place. This is furthermore proven when the text states, "Based on the similarity between the planning failures and failed plans concerning the New Orleans levee system, and planning failures and failed plans of federal and state agencies to provide the proper environmental protection..." (Levitt, 2009, p.157). This statement shows how because of the neglect of not only state but federal plans and planning many people lost everything including their lives. To support whole community resiliency, Greenville County has a Community Emergency Response Team. This team plays a vital role in local resiliency, because this team is Soley made up of Greenville County citizens that.
