Assessment Title - Network Requirement Analysis and Design
Assignment Description
Objectives:
Metro-foods is a fast food chain company providing takeaway and home delivery food services to averagely 1000 customer daily from their 3 outlets (i.e. Melbourne CBD, South-East and North branches). As a network design engineer, you have been tasked to establish a fully operational network for the company. In a meeting with company's manager, you receive general information about the business and company, and you have asked to collect the rest of the requirements.
Presently, Metro-foods do not have any online ordering systems. Currently, all the orders from customers are taken using ordinary landline phones. The company keeps record of inventory and food orders using multiple registers at each branch, hence there is no central Management Information Systems (MIS). Each of the outlets handles its budget independently. All the company's branches also employ delivery drivers but because there is no central database no delivery tracking system is being used currently. Metro-foods are willing to deploy a complete automated central MIS system; therefore, essentially they require a comprehensive network design.
You are required to provide a basic structure of a suitable network and address the following questions/objectives:
a) Identify the important points/requirements about the proposed network.
b) Draw a diagram of your proposed network showing devices, network types and media.
c) Design relevant subnetting for the proposed network, by considering the future requirements for scalability.
d) List the important devices to develop the network for the business, and explain their roles.
e) Explain the possible deployment of wireless technology and its uses and contribution to the improvement of company's business.
A network design and implementation proposal is required. As a part of proposal, submit a report to address following two tasks.
Task 1 (related to objective a):
In order to gather (user, application, and network) requirements various techniques are used such as site surveys, analysis of business type, interviews and questionnaire. Create a suitable questionnaire to acquire application/network requirements. The questionnaire must have at least 10 questions. Describe the purpose of each question and divide these questions into either application requirement or device requirements. Record possible answers to use in the next task.
Task 2 (related to objectives b, c and d):
• Based on the requirements identified at Task1, design a WAN structure of the business showing all devices such as routers, switches, links, etc. by Using a relevant network designing software. Draw a diagram to illustrate your high-level design.
• Determine network addresses by using the subnet 192.168.P.0/24, where P is your group number. You also need to use Variable Length Subnet Mask (VLSM) technique whilst creating the subnets and allow 30% for possible future expansion.
• You need to explain the technical aspects for the choosing devices such routers, switches, hubs, Aps, cables, servers etc.
Task 3 (related to objectives b, c, d and e)
• Explain how wireless can be supported on one of the branch and what benefit would it support.
• (Using Packet Tracer) Implement the proposed network, Configure the topology devices with basic configurations, routing and NAT. Extra configuration such as VLAN and Port security entitled to extra marks.
