Assessment Title

To analyze a website from the URL "webpagesthatsuck" and to illustrate bad aspects of any website. Students should learn how to design good website BY looking at bad websites.

Learning Outcome 1: Discuss the Web site development process (web critics)
Learning Outcome 2: Plan, design, produce and test a multimedia project (image editing)

Part A - Web Critiques

Purpose of the assessment:

The purpose of this assignment is to acquire the skills of providing constructive critique of web pages as people learn from mistake done by other developers. A section of this assignment requires you to write recommendations to improve the design of a real website.

Select at least three criteria from the list below to assess your website against:
? Visual effects (colour scheme, typography, page layout)
? Navigation / website layout / access to different web pages on the website
? Pages download speed
? Site consistency
? Content and professionalism

You need to describe what best development practices in the chosen criteria are and explain how the chosen website violates these practices. Insert screenshots of the relevant pages to illustrate your point.

All images MUST have appropriate label/caption. Finally, recommend improvements based on your observation. You may sketch the suggested modifications in addition to verbal description.

This task requires an extensive research on web design beyond the lectures content in this unit. List and cite references, which you may use to discover good web design practices. You should not use statement like "I did not like..." as you are not an expert on web design. Your statements should be similar to the following:

"The accepted practice is to ... This website violates this practice because ..."

Write an academic report of approximately 1000 words. Ensure you understand the marking criteria and your report meets these criteria.
