Learning Outcome 1: Critically appraise scholarship in the field of their degree award
Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate a sound knowledge of research methods
Learning Outcome 3: Evaluate principles of ethics, sustainability and responsibility in the context of their own work and justify the approach adopted
Learning Outcome 4: Act autonomously to conceptualise and conduct an independent piece of research
Learning Outcome 5: Present research findings
Learning Outcome 6: Communicate research appropriately using academic conventions of academic research reporting
Assessment Task: You are required to produce an original piece of research in an appropriate business topic consistent with your course of study. The word limit is 8,000 words.
You must choose one of the following types of research for your work:
a) A study based on primary data collection
b) A structured literature review
c) An analysis of secondary data
Each of these approaches to research have different requirements. The approach taken will depend on the type of research you wish to do, and on the subject you wish to explore. Task specific guidance:
(1) Please read through Students Guide to Undertaking the Individual Research Project document prior to the start of your research. It is available on your Brightspace. This document explains the requirements of this project in details and offers an illustrative structure for each type of research listed above (i.e., a study based on primary data collection, a structured literature review, and an analysis of secondary data).
(2) You should familiarise yourself with the roles and expectations for both you and your supervisor. You can find out more information in the Supervisor-Student Agreement document available on Brightspace.
(3) Please make sure that you have an approved Ethics form before you start your data collection. You should include your Ethics form in your final work as an appendix. More details are available in Students Guide to Undertaking the Individual Research Project document.
