Assessment - Strategic Competitive Plan for: Mercury Energy, New Zealand

In assessment 2, you became familiar with Mercury Energy's Internal and External environment. Using this information, you are required to write a report outlining strategic directions Mercury could take, and recommending one of them. Your recommendations must be justified with the appropriate theoretical models, evidence and literature, and agreeing with Mercury's Vision, Mission, and Values. Complete this assignment in small groups of two or three students.

Include:

1. Introduction (300 words)

Re-introduce Mercury; include their vision, mission statement, and values briefly. Discuss the main findings from your Internal and External analyses.

2. SWOT analysis (700 words)

In their strategic plans, Mercury like to include three Values: 1. Social responsibility, 2. Environmental Sustainability, and 3. Technological progression. However, you can only include two of these dimensions in this report. Therefore: Provide a detailed SWOT analyses (include SWOT table) using findings from your Internal and External analyses to develop a minimum of four strategic options. And use two of the three Values shown above in your SWOT analyses when developing your strategic options

3. Strategic Options (700 words)

Explain the strategy options you have determined from your SWOT analyses, using the appropriate theories you have learned.

Evaluate and justify the strategy options using the RACES framework (Resource, Acceptable, Coherent, Effective, Sustainable).

4. Best Strategic Option (600 words)

Discuss which strategy or combination of strategies you believe would be the best option for Mercury and which strategies should be rejected. Ensure you justify your choices.

Discuss the impacts, trade-offs and unintended consequences that may occur if your strategy is implemented.

5. Conclusion (200 words)

Please note that word counts are only suggestions as to the breakdown of your report.

Assessment 2 - Presentation

Learning outcomes assessed: Critically evaluate issues associated with implementing strategy in an organisation.

This assessment is designed to conclude all of your learning in this paper. You now have an understanding of the whole strategic management process from mission statement to implementation. This process should allow you to look at your company and, applying the same strategies used to complete assessments one and two, complete a strategic management review, formulate a strategic plan and identify critical issues in implementation.

You must complete this assignment individually:

Develop a PowerPoint presentation which discusses the issues around implementing your strategy. You should create this presentation with the intention of delivering it to the company's board of directors.

Your presentation is to be made up of 9 to 12 PowerPoint slides (including the references which must be included in the final slide) and aim for 15 minutes to complete the presentation. Self-record your presentation and submit on your due date with your power points. Appendix slides are permitted in addition to the 12 slide limit, but should be kept to an absolute minimum.
