BL 5046 Understanding Visitor Behaviour - Business Management
Write a Critical and Evaluative account of a Visitor Edinburgh Castle (ScotlandUK) business and associated visitor/customer Behaviour.
To be presented in report format
• Identify a Visitor Attraction/Resort/retail business of your choice
• Analyse and evaluatethe differences in participation patterns of the visitors/customers in relation to leisure, hospitality and tourism opportunities and expectations
• Critically evaluate the visitor typologies, in relation to demographics, social, culture, and ethnic groups etc for the visitor attraction/resort you have chosen
Focus on the theory you have learned in class rather than the attraction. Demonstrate your understanding of the key theories and topics by applying these to the attraction.
Introduction
• Introduction to the establishment and reason for choice (make this brief - do not focus on detail of the attraction)
• Analyse and evaluate
o Integrate the theory here and demonstrate application to the attraction. How does sociology affect / influence behaviour?
o Cover the following:
• Tourist Gaze - how does this differ between visitors?
• Sociology - consensus / conflict theory - how does this apply to the attraction
• Psychology - different schools of psychology - how these can influence behaviour?
• Motivators & Determinants - what are these and how do they apply to your chosen attraction?
• Critically assess the different types of visitor to the establishment discussing the various demographics, social culture and ethnic groups
o Cover the following:
» Academic Typologies - what types of visitors are likely to visit? Why?
» Consumer Behaviour - what factors influence consumption patterns?
» (Sociology) - as above
• Show an understanding of the topic discussed. Presenting both breadth and depth of understanding. When discussing the above demonstrate the breadth of research you have carried out by the use of a variety of reference materials, also linking the theories to your discussion. Ensure you use Harvard referencing as this will also have a bearing on your marks.
• Conclusions
• Including evidence based recommendations and develop points raised throughout the report.
