How does muscle fiber type lead to a higher VO2 max, in other words which would have a higher VO2 max a subject with a high percentage of slow twitch fibers or fast twitch fibers? Explain your reasoning.

As one keeps increasing workload biochemical reactions in aerobic metabolism become less efficient. Think of this as if you keep trying to catch a ball that is being thrown at you faster and faster you start to miss. Each miss means less ATP was produced aerobically. The more misses the more lactate (anaerobic metabolism) is created. Observe your data did you see a point where there was a large increase in ventilation or CO2 production? How does this relate to a shift in metabolism/ rise in lactate? What would you have expected to happen to blood lactate at that point as compared to rest? If you compared 2 athletes and one had a jump in lactate occur at a much higher workload which athlete is likely more aerobically trained.
