Question: Performing a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis can provide insight when planning for incident response, business continuity, and disaster recovery. This type of analysis also provides you with the foundational skills to perform risk assessment, which we will explore in future courses, and draws on the data thinking skills that you have been developing throughout the program. Often, this type of exercise is performed in a group setting where different stakeholders in an organization can brainstorm together in order to include a diversity of opinions and perspectives.
For this assignment, you are an analyst for an organization that is faced with the choice of either upgrading their current on-premises model of data storage or setting up a public cloud infrastructure to increase their capacity. You are tasked with completing a preliminary SWOT analysis to aid in the decision-making process. The SWOT analysis will be performed because the proposed changes may expose your organization and its data to new types of risk.
Prompt

Opportunities quadrant: What can the organization do with the public cloud that cannot be done now?
Threats quadrant: How will moving to the cloud affect the people and processes who work in this space?
