Assignment:

I see one clear reason listed in your post (that lowering the age will decrease the consumption of alcohol by teenagers in uncontrolled environments). Based on your preliminary research, what might be two other main supporting reasons why the drinking age should be lowered?

The topic you have chosen

The topic chosen for this assignment is: Why the legal drinking age should be lowered from 21 to 18.

The current legal age for drinking alcohol is 21 years and people below this age, including people aged 18 and above are not allowed to drink alcohol. While the intentions of setting the legal age of drinking at 21 years was well-intentioned, younger individuals have often taken alcohol in unregulated environments. Such behaviors are dangerous because the consumption is not regulated. If the age of drinking alcohol was lowered, individuals aged 18 and above would take alcohol without having to hide or consume it under dangerously uncontrolled environments.

Five questions that you will want to know about your subject that might guide your research.

A good argument that makes a meaningful impact must often be well-researched and tailored to the audience's interests. Therefore, there is a need to develop guiding questions to facilitate a better understanding of the subject. The following questions are developed to offer a better perspective on the topic.

1. How does the current legal age of drinking affecting people aged 18 to 20?

2. What are the benefits of lowering the legal age of drinking?

3. Could lowering the legal age reduce cases of irresponsible drinking and intoxication among younger individuals?

4. What are the negative effects of lowering the legal age of drinking to 18?

5. What is the statistical evidence of drunk driving fatalities in countries with lower or no restrictions on the age drinking versus the US?

A few ideas about where you will begin looking for the answers to those questions.

The topic of the minimum age of drinking needs to be supported by evidence and statistics. To begin research, I will look at the current news articles, research statistics, and comparisons of country data. I will use Google Search Engines, ECPI library systems, and Google.

Ideas about other materials, including media, you might use to support your project.

I will also look for documentaries or video clips about the minimum drinking age and its impacts on youth.
