Assignment:

Imagine that we live in a society called Rationalia with a constitution that requires all public policy to be based on empirical evidence. In keeping with Plato's and Socrates' preference for a philosopher-king, this society is a technocracy, which means it is governed by experts.

1. First, what might be some of the benefits of living in a society such as Rationalia? What might be some of the drawbacks?

2. Second, if the experts responsible for governing Rationalia are truly "wise" (in the Platonic sense of the word), could they really base all public policy on empirical evidence? How would this work in practice? Feel free to think about this question in relation to the fictional Rationalia while also applying it to a real country (like the United States).
