In terms of governance, some of Air Canada's weaknesses are the non-disclosure of the board member and chief executives' remuneration and attendance rate during board meetings. The beneficial ownership of the company is also not listed.

Air Canada needs to build on its effort to achieve a green building program for facilities used and environmental management system covering waste generation, and carbon emissions. The company also needs to improve its effort to integrate environmental considerations into the design of products and services. Only 50-74% of products are environmentally certified and have footprint assessments. Air Canada should also increase diversity in ownership and leadership.

"Ninety-nine percent of the airline's Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions are generated from aircraft engine combustion" (Air Canada Corporate Sustainability Report, 2020), Air Canada should shift its focus to monitoring and reporting energy used in aviation. In their annual and corporate sustainability report for 2020, there are no actual figures on how much these CO2 emissions are and its accumulated values over the years. It just goes to show that there is no relevant effort during this time to reduce their carbon footprint.
