Being a Leader Module Project: Organizational Change
The purpose of the Module Project is to apply the concepts and techniques of the module to the analysis of real-world situations or problems, and to critically evaluate different approaches to addressing such problems. It will also provide you with an opportunity to start to develop the skills you will need to complete your dissertation or consultancy project, the culminating step of your Masters' programme.
The focus of the Module Project for Being a Leader is the critical analysis of an organizational problem which results from an organizational change. This project is designed to equip you with the skills needed to analyse and develop solutions to leadership challenges arising from an organizational change initiative. It gives you the opportunity to combine learning from the module with your own creativity to challenge the status quo and develop a credible environment for leading and managing change successfully. You will complete this project in four submissions: a brief statement of the organisational problem you plan to address, due in Week 5; an analysis of an organisational change problem, due in Week 7; a critical literature review, due in Week 9; and a final paper, due in Week 11.
Scenario
Imagine that you have been appointed as an external change management consultant to an organisation that you currently work in or, alternatively, an organisation you are familiar with, perhaps through your previous employment or business dealings. Your task is to report to the CEO with an action plan and recommendations for leading and managing the change successfully. The plan must be both engaging and offer realistic ideas for implementation.
Complete your Module Project, an approximately 3,000-word paper providing an analysis of leadership challenges arising from an organisational change and recommendations for leading/managing the change process.
Your Module Project should have entries under each heading. A suggested outline is as follows:
- Introduction
- Background to the Situation of the Change
- Diagnosis of the Change
- Implementing the Change
- Conclusions and Recommendations
