Behavioral Change Techniques: Action Planning and Incentive (outcome)

Action planning is one of the labels I chose as a behavioral change technique. Action planning is the active planning of performance and the intention of completion of the behavior. This behavioral change technique is needed to plan out the next goals and actually having the intention to perform them. An example of action planning in my healthcare organization I currently work for would be to get the doctor offices and agree on an action plan for encouraging and getting out the information to their patients. I work in the quality department of my healthcare company and we need certain preventative measures and medical services given to patients in order for the doctors to make sure they are protecting their patients. Some patients are more difficult than others to get the needed medical services done, so having an action plan made up with the offices will help our department organize and implement the strategies to better those action plans. These action plans will show what intentions are required and how to carry them out properly. I chose this topic because in my current healthcare organization we are always needed action plans to help our situations with patients that can help both us and the patients.

Incentive (outcome) is the other label of the behavioral change technique I chose. Incentives are an encouragement for a reward that will be given if the requirements for the incentive are met. This behavioral change technique helps people want to get things done while also getting some benefit out of the deal too. An example for an incentive I would use in my healthcare organization is have the patients get a certain amount of money or gift cards for achieving those preventive measures. When a patient needs to get their flu vaccine done after a certain age or a mammogram, sometimes patients don't want to do them, even when its for their benefit. The incentives could be a gift card with $25 dollars on it for when the patient completes their flu vaccine or mammogram. This will encourage the patients to want to get the preventative measures done and they will receive something in return. I chose this topic because we have a lot of issues with patients not completing preventive measures that are necessary for their health and the doctor's offices to ensure they are doing what they should as an organization.

This type of incentive program would encourage our patients to want to complete the preventive measures.
