Write a response to this article including two compliments and requests for elaboration that lead to further thought and discussion

For this discussion, unethical behavior in the workplace was researched. This behavior is defined as behavior within the workplace or by an organization that violates generally accepted moral norms (Kaptein, 2011). The trick is figuring out what norms apply in that setting. Some things that will cross multiple platforms, however, knowing the environment is essential. One of the most common unethical behaviors that many employees may not think about is misusing company time. As a former supervisor, this is something I had to address multiple times and with every employee at least once. Many work days stretch at least an 8 hour period, and it can be hard to find something work related to do during the entire time. What people often do not realize is adjusting timesheets, conducting personal business during work hours and even socializing for too long with co-workers is considered unethical behavior and misuse of company time. Kaprein (2011) discussed how clarity, supervisor and manager role modeling, commitment, visibility, openness, reinforcement, and an employee’s capability all deal with the individual's dimensions of ethical culture. If these dimensions are practiced and implemented properly, they can help combat unethical behaviors in the workforce.

The violation of human rights is also a topic centered on norms within society. Le (2016) defines human rights as the universal dignity of all human beings by virtue of humanity, with dignity meaning the universal aspiration that all humans are treated with respect, and recognized as equal worth. Human rights and the violation of such rights is often a topic of sore discussion. Human right violations also differ significantly by culture and country. In the United States, one of the most common human right violations centers on health care. Human rights are said to belong to everyone. However, within the health care industry, this is often questioned. Morris (2010) speaks on how despite the passing of the Human Rights Act of 1998 there has been a failure to improve availability and care for older individuals. This failure is a direct violation of their human rights and in conflict with the act. To rectify this situation providers need to pay more attention to the individual’s needs. Providing staff who are engaged, committed, and well trained no matter the age or social status of the patient will also assist with getting things on track. Simply following some of the articles listed in the Human Rights act of 1998 will turn around many violations related to health care.

Unethical behavior and the violation of human rights are topics often assumed to be common knowledge. However, there are many gray areas in the day to day makings of these situations. After researching both topics, the most significant differences between the two is human rights are often uniform rights that everyone is entitled to no matter what, and ethical behavior is something learned from lesson or experience. The violation of human rights is imposed on a person by someone else, who either do not fully understand the entitled right or does not care enough to make sure it is enforced. Similarly, unethical behavior is something either something done without identifying it is unethical, or someone did not care about being unethical because he or she are seeking a particular outcome.
