Sandra is a fairly new nurse, she has been practicing in the local hospital for two years. The majority of her experience has been in med-surg, but she has also floated to the ER several times over the course of her employment? Sandra has decided that she wants to join a group of disaster volunteers that respond to disasters all over the world. She feels she is being called to serve in this area and is determined to join. You have been her mentor since she began working at the hospital and have volunteered yourself several times for disaster emergencies. She comes to you for advice and your thoughts on the choice she is about to make.

You will begin by explaining below why all nurses should be prepared for disasters.
