More recently, historians have sought to complicate this picture, emphasizing factors other than key individuals. In your view, based on our survey of the history of Western technology this term, how historically influential have individuals been? Can one person really make a significant difference in the direction or effects of technological developments? Has the ability of an individual to make a difference changed over the centuries? If so, why? And if not, why not?
