As the Local Union President, you have recently been elected to this position after serving previously as Vice-President. Your mandate is to be tough and to negotiate a large wage increase, as your membership has clearly indicated that you are unhappy and dissatisfied with the increases that have been granted over the last 5 years. The membership is also extremely unhappy with the level of benefits and with the amount of overtime that is available and thinks that the overtime is allocated in an unfair manner. You are friends with the National Representative and although s/he distrusts the lead negotiator for the management team, you actually have a good working relationship with the Vice-President of Human Resources and find that you and s/he are able to resolve matters. From your perspective, the union's position at negotiations must be strong and must seek to get at least an 8% wage increase over the next 3 years. Given your mandate from the membership, you feel that you must present a strong and united front at the bargaining table and bargain extremely hard with management.
