The Organization and the analysis of their crisis: What happened? When did it happen? Who was involved? What was the impact?
We have chosen to focus on the impact a large organization, particularly Baptist Health of Jacksonville, FL, deciding to force employees to be vaccinated for COVID-19 or be forced to be terminated. On August 3, 2021 Baptist Health released a statement that all employees are forced to be vaccinated by November 15, 2021 or will be terminated. Although known of us work for Baptist Health this can still majorly affect each of us in different ways. Currently this directly impacts each employee who refuses or choses not to become vaccinated that will face termination as well as it directly affects each patient and employee by minimizing their chances of contracting and dying form COVID-19. Depending on the stance to which Baptist Health has taken as how it plays out in the next few months, mainly considering that each level of government has a different stance on mandatory vaccines, this could prompt other large organizations to do the same or it could steer them away if Baptist Health were to face criminal or civil charges.
Addressing how we will include the required components in our research: crisis, leadership, communication plan, leadership's response, and suggestions to improve.
We plan on exploring the pros and cons of mandating vaccines to a wide number of employees for each topic.
- Crisis - When addressing the component of crisis within the realm of Baptist Health we have to see that a crisis can be created without mandating vaccines to which could cause COVID-19 to spread more rapidly within their facilities and cause more fatal reactions to the virus. However, on the contrary, Baptist Health could face a crisis when employee who refuse or choose not to take the vaccine leave their organization and Baptist Health is dealt with a crisis of not having staff to treat patients.
- Leadership - Will be addressed to explore how leaders are able to come together to properly implant a plan to ensure that each employee gets the vaccine and how they can handle those employees on then fence about getting it.
- Leadership response - Focus on how Baptist Health responses to not only the possibilities of losing employees but also how they monitor and response to the possible legal litigation they could face since Governor DeSantis has banned the mandate of vaccinating employees in FL.
- Communication plan - We will focus out research on how leaders react the many different changing factors within the mandate of vaccines, for example how they effectively communicate change with their employees as well as their patients.
- Suggestions to improve - Once finishing our research we plan to create collective suggestions on how Baptist Health can possibly handle the situation better with consideration on the handling of their employees and patients.
