Case studies -
Instructions: Read and analyze each case carefully. Answer all the questions.
Case Study 1 - Abdul Malik, the recently appointed CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Ready Made Garments. Is well -experienced in clothing business. Apart from managing local business, he develops strategy to enter the export market as the company got good orders from Bahrain.
They have two divisions; 1. Making Readymade garments for regular use and 2. Garments for Industrial workers.
After a month of working, Abdul Malik realised that there are problems in the management of the company. There is no long term planning.
The research and development department has located some weakness of the unit like lack of automatic equipment and poorly designed production process. Because of which the competition is gaining in the market due to its advanced technology and better quality products. The company has around 25 shops all over Oman and good dealer network. Marketing department is working hard but due to lack of enough finance they are not able to advertise the products and losing sales.
All the workers are controlled by strict rules and regulations. The organisation has no mission statement. The management recently proposed to invest OMR 5,00,000 through bank loan for buying new automatic machinery and rearranging the production process. From the above scenario, answer the following Questions below. (Minimum word count for answers in case study is 100-200)
Question 1 - a. Based on the case study apply the SWOT analysis on how they can effectively manage the company.
b. Discuss whether the strategies used by the company is effective with justification.
Question 2 - a. Determine the appropriate organizational structure displayed in the case. Briefly explain.
b. Explain briefly steps of developing organizational structure/design that company may follow.
Case Study 2 - Salim is a Post Graduate in Engineering with specialization in Research and Development. He is appointed as the manager for Quality Control Department in Sohar Aluminium LLC whose motto of workers in the field is "safety first". After joining the organisation, he met, Reda Ali, who was his classmate at HCT Muscat. Reda works in the Production department as Senior Mechanic.
After one month, they met again in pantry in their complete uniform with name plate including position in the company attached in their coats. They had a detailed conversation to discuss the working situations in the organisation. During their conversation, Reda said to Salim: "Don't worry, you just try your best to win your team mates, later on you will get support from them." as Salim expressed that despite of giving all his efforts and working so hard as manager of his department, he felt dissatisfaction since some are not co-operating and to get work from them is very difficult task. Reda further said, "It is the issue faced by all managers in the organisation as there are strict rules and controls in the organisation culture". Salim replied: "there is need for change in our organisation culture."

Question 3 - a. Would you agree with the statement of Reda "Don't worry, you just try your best to win your team mates, later on you will get support from them."
b. Analyze what management function is not effectively applied by Salim? How he can improve it?
c. What would you recommend to Salim to manage his team effectively? Write.
Question 4 - a. Explain the 3 level of cultures shown in the case. Identify each level the specific culture shown in the case.
Case Study 3 - Wafa Salim is in her final year B Tech and has plans to go to UK for her master's degree in Business Administration and Management this is her dream. Till recently, it was fine but with latest Covid-19 issues and subsequent decisions by various governments to ban visas to outsiders, her objective seems to be impossible to achieve. She is very depressed and unable to take a decision about her future. She is now apprehensive about her life, she feels that virus is everywhere and she does not feel secured. Her family is with her and they are being supportive to her and shown her love and support. They advise her that she must always see the good side of this crisis: they have food and shelter while other people in the world have not, they are now always together and there is always time for her dreams.
From the above scenario, answer the following Questions below. (Minimum word count for answers in case study is 100-200)
Question 5 - a. Explain the steps of decision making process to Wafa with regards to her problem.
Question 6 - a. Analyze the motivational theory that is applicable in her case? Justify your answer.
Case Study 4 - Bayan has been working as an Assistant Sales Manager with Bahwan Cybertek LLC., for the last ten years. She was very popular amongst the colleagues for her commitment and dedication to work. When her boss retired, everyone in the organisation thought Bayan will be the new manager. Surprisingly the manager post was filled by an outsider, Ms. Lujaina.
Bayan got disappointed and went directly to the HR manger and asked the reasons for not considering her for the position of manager as she has the qualifications. The HR manger explained that her style of communication with top management is the main problem, many times it was found out that she did not respond to the emails of important clients about their complaints on some of their products and services; that is why she was not considered for the position. She reasoned out that it was not her job, it's the task of customer service. But the decision was final: Ms. Lujaina is the new Sales Manager.
Bayan did not like the reason and started to be absent more often to the work. She was unable to meet the work targets. Ms Lujaina, the new Sales Manager noticed this change in the behaviour of Bayan and felt the need to rectify the problem. She initiated a meeting with Bayan involves her in decision-making and she said that she will be relying with her about all the major decisions in their department since she is the senior. She recommended, an increment on the salary of Bayan; from then on Bayan started to come to office like before and she is a completely changed person.

Case No 5 - Ms. Samira is working in a company as accounting manager and her principle is "Every Account should be balanced and everything should be in proper order". Everyone knows her principle and they respect her not only for that but because of her very accommodating and friendly personality. The owner of the company relies on her recommendations and suggestions when it comes to financial and investment decisions. If tasks will be given to her she will make a program on how she will accomplish it.
One day the CEO gave her assignment to make a market study which business is in demand today since they will plan to have new business venture for the next 5 years to come.
She presented 5 promising business ventures to the CEO, after reading all the reports, he said: "I will listen to your advice and suggestions, as I always trust my hardworking employees". "From the above scenario, answer the following Questions below. (Minimum word count for answers in case study is 100- 200 )
Question 9 - a. Identify 2 types of managerial skills showed by Samira.
b. Determine at least 2 functions of management that are shown in this case. How they become useful to the company?
