Balancing a Centrifuge: Students need to be proficient in using the Swinging bucket centrifuge during this semester. Balancing tubes is important for all centrifuges.

  1. Sally student had four tubes.  Tube #1 had 5mLs.  Tubes #2 and #3 had 8 mLs.  Tube #4 had 5mLs.  How should Sally place the tubes to make sure the centrifuge is balanced?

Clearly mark the tube location (by filling in the correct circle/s).  If a "dummy" tube is needed, indicate which tube is the "dummy" tube by writing the word dummy and using an arrow to show which is the dummy tube.

2. Indicate how you would balance TWO tubes in the image below.  Follow directions above.

3. Indicate how you would balance THREE tubes in the image below.  Follow directions above.
