Aylmer's solution works, but we learn that the birthmark is still "barely perceptible" at the end of the text. What does it say that Aylmer's elixir didn't completely remove the birthmark?  b)"Aminadab" laughs at the end of the story when the things do not work out. Aylmer and Aminadab are both representations of 2 different periods and there actions in the story clearly demonstrate the beliefs of two different periods.
