A social scientist believes that the average number of pages in a professional journal in social science has changed in the past few decades. In 1970 the average of all journals was 115 pages with a standard deviation of 10.4 pages. A sample of 45 current journals finds an average of 111 pages with a standard deviation of 12.4 pages. At o.o1, is the social scientist correct?

In August, Landmark Polling Company asked 600 Georgians how they were going to vote in the upcoming election for governor. They found that 40% were planning on voting for the Republican. In September, the same company surveyed 1500 Georgians and found that 51% were planning on voting Republican. Is there evidence to suggest that fewer people planned to vote Republican in August than in September? Assume all conditions and assumptions have been satisfied and test at the 5% significance level.
