A small group of staff working in the new product development team has approached you as the operation manager. Their complaint is that their manager, who has been in the post for six months will not delegate. He is working late nights and others in the team are bored and demotivated. They had much more autonomy and authority under the previous manager.

In your opinion, why the manager or supervisor should delegate some of their authority to their subordinates. What factors should a manager or supervisor take into account when deciding whether or not to delegate? Briefly give reasons why the manager is reluctant to delegate.
