Automated Accounting System Inventory Exercise

Introduction:

This exercise focuses on the Item Master file.  Please use the examples in the separate Excel spreadsheet that is part of this exercise.

Assignment:

  1. Part I - Setup the Product Groups
  2. Part II - Setup the Inventory Locations
  3. Part III - Setup the Inventory Items
  4. Part IV - Setup a Kit
  5. Part V (optional) - For those interested in a challenge try to Setup a Bill of Materials (BOM)
  6. Compare entering Customers in the different systems.  Answer the following questions:
  • Did any of the systems lack a field for any data elements listed below?
  • How are the systems similar? Identify at least 5 similarities.
  • How are the systems different? Identify 5 differences.
  • Which system do you prefer? Why?
  • Which systems, of those available to you, offer more "head room" (room to support more extensive requirements)?

General Instructions:

  1. Embed your name in the Vendor name.  For example, Desk - Savin.  So your work can be distinguished from the work of others.
  2. Enter 3 Inventory Items in at least 2 systems.  Pick AX or Epicor or SYSPRO for 1 of the 2 systems.  Use the separate set of examples for this exercise.
  3. Extra credit will be given for entering a Vendor in a third system.

If a system requires additional information beyond what is provided below, fill in your own data.  Record the additions you make on your copy of the Exercise for future reference.

Notice the two styles of vendor numbers, abbreviations and numbers.  Recall the discussion on Block Codes and Intelligent Numbering.

Include in your answers a note about any data elements that you could not find appropriate places to put them.

EQUIP - Office Equipment

FURN - Furniture

PAPR  - Paper Goods

PEN    - Pens, Pencils, Erasers, etc.

SUPP  - Supplies

II.    Inventory Locations:

MAIN  - Main Warehouse

ONT    - Ontario Satellite Warehouse

SFO    - San Francisco Satellite Warehouse

III.   Inventory Master:

      See attached worksheet

IV.  Kits - Setup PROMO1 kit.  This kit includes the following items:

  • Three (3) LaserJet Cartridges
  • One (1) box of Pilot Pens (12 pens to a box).

The price of PROMO1 is $410.00.

V.   Bill of Materials - Setup a Bill of Materials for the Executive Chair (CH-5504).

  • 1 - Chair Body
  • 1 - Chair Base
  • 2 - Chair Arms
  • 1 - Hydraulic Lift (which sits on the chair base and is attached by screws to the underside of the chair body)
  • 4 - Screws (to attach the hydraulic lift to the underside of the chair body)
  • 15 minutes of labor to assemble the chair
